FREE CREATIVE WRITING TRACKER

But that’s not the first hurdle. For a lot of writers, particularly beginners the first problem is actually finishing the piece and not becoming lost in a mass of dark clouds.

However, the world is different when you are commissioned. Believe me when you are ‘on a promise of a cheque,’ the sun shines brighter, your confidence is higher, ideas flow and your concentration is sharp.

KILL PROCRASTINATION AND MURDER WRITER’S BLOCK

I must admit I am speaking personally. I have never been blocked, or had trouble with procrastination when I was commissioned. There is nothing like a deadline and promise of payment to get the creative juices flowing in a struggling writer.

When you are commissioned you find yourself brimming with motivation and deeply focused.

Believe me, nothing will peel your eyes from the screen, not even if your neighbours have hired a kango-hammer to knock down the dividing walls – just when you are approaching the difficult second act of your script, or that sticky page seventy-five of your novel.

USING A WRITING TRACKER KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED

Not all writers are lucky enough go be commissioned and many of us are writing on ‘spec’ which can affect our motivation.

One of the best ways to stay motivated is by focusing on what you have achieved rather than what you have not (yet.) Tracking your writing sessions regularly will enable you to do this easily and motivate you to achieve more.

It is a sort of calendar with a box for each day of the year.

All you do is print it out, hang it where you write, and tick each day you did some writing.

I personally use mine to track my own writing and I find looking at it really helps me feel motivated.

I also feel guilty if I see any days without a tick and I do my best to avoid those ‘gaps.’ I know it seems like a very simple thing to do but believe me it really is a great feeling to see all those sessions mounting up.

So go on, click on the link below, or on the right side of this page.

Get your free creative writing tracker and start tracking now.

Don’t worry about being spammed I promise I never do that.

Best of luck with your tracking and your writing.

Hi Rosanne, thanks for your comment. I think sometimes writers look ahead at the writing not yet done! I suggest that every time a writer has a writing session they tick a box on the tracker or maybe even place a sticky star on each box. That way every time they look at the tracker they are looking at all the work done. I find seeing those ticks or stars mount up is a great way to motivate yourself to do more.
