Halloween is getting scarily close and I have just been rushing to get my new website www.ballyyahoo.com ready for it’s first little outing into the wide world of the Internet.
This site is to be the new home for all things Ballyyahoo, the fictitious little town where a lot of my stories are set. I have been planning to do this for a long time but with so many other things to do I just couldn’t seem to find the time to get it going.
THE CURSE OF INDECISION
It didn’t help that I had a lot of technical problems with the ‘theme’ of the website – none of the ones I chose seemed to suit the needs of the site, and I ended up spending a lot of time uploading, activating and deactivating themes, before having to make a choice on the basis that I had ran out of time! Not the best way to make a decision but sometimes you just got to do, what you’ve got to do!
However, with Halloween coming up I was under pressure. You see I had been working on a Halloween story that I was also anxious to get finished in time for Halloween. The story and the site were linked – Ballyyahoo is the setting for this Halloween story.
I originally wrote The Real Halloween when I was writing for RTE One, Ireland’s national radio station and it was broadcast as part of a series of children’s shows I was writing for at the time. At the time I called it ‘Dancer’s Well.’
My task now was to rewrite it as a story for publication and also to relocate the setting to Ballyyahoo. This is important because as I said above, this is the fictional little Irish town where I base a lot of my children’s stories and you can’t have a little Irish town without a story for Halloween!
In some ways my final choice was made on the basis that I had ran out of time! Not the best way to make a decision but sometimes you just got to do, what you’ve got to do!
So here is ‘The Real Halloween’ and there is also a synopsis here. I hope you will download it and enjoy it and please don’t be scared to give it a review. You see, in this brave new world of online books and stories, us writers can’t sell our stories without those magical little stars and reviews from you!
