MY FIRST ONLINE BOOK PUBLISHING PROJECT
Online book publishing is something I have been thinking about but not doing for a long time. Yet, time is flying. Work is continuing on my writer’s hut and I can’t wait to use it, though whether or not I can channel some of Roald Dahl’s inspiration and success remains to be seen.
For my first online book publishing project I am adapting some children’s stories. I originally wrote these stories for an RTE radio series called Fiction Fifteen and they were recorded and broadcast some years ago. They were very popular and so I decided to rewrite them and structure them into short Ebooks for children and use them as my first online book publishing project.
SELF-PUBLISHING TO KINDLE
Because I originally conceived these stories for radio they work extremely well when read aloud and so are very suited for parents who enjoy reading stories to their children and of course children who enjoy listening. I am self-publishing them to Kindle and so I am encountering a whole new learning curve, which, like most things, is fun when it goes well and not so much fun when it doesn’t. Online book publishing means doing a lot of extra work for the writer.
WRITING IS REWRITING
The other thing I am hoping to do is continue work on a novel I have been writing. I have finished it which is great and I feel really optimistic about it which is also great, but even so, optimism is one thing and reality is another. I left the book aside to ‘brew’ for a while. After I blew the cobwebs off I decided to make some changes to the structure of the story. It is often said that writing is rewriting and I totally agree. I enjoy rewriting, once I am sure it will improve the story.
What they don’t say about re-writing is that once you realize how important it is, it’s very hard to stop. I have also heard it said that stories are never finished – just abandoned. If this story is ever going to be ready to be part of my online book publishing project, it might just have to be to be ripped from my cold dead fingers…
Bye for now
