OPPORTUNITIES – MORE OR LESS?
Has the Internet killed books? Well maybe not yet – but maybe it will, but only if you believe that stories can only exist when printed on paper and sandwiched between two pieces of colourful cardboard.
I don’t believe that. There is a lot more to a story than paper. The actions and words of the characters, the twists, turns, shocks, surprises and emotional resonance of a good story, the way good description evokes imagery in the mind, not to mention the spirit, sweat and sometimes tears of the writer who wrote it.
In my opinion, none of these wonders cease to exist just because you are reading from a computer or a small handheld reader. Maybe the storytellers of old sat around the fire worrying that the written word would kill stories. At the end of day…
PEOPLE LOVE STORIES
People still love stories – this is what’s important and this hasn’t changed. Despite the Internet, despite computers, kindles and eReaders, despite everything, it is still we writers, humans (well, most of us anyway) who are making up the best stories and it still humans who buy them and read them.
