Ten worst things about social networks.

Book cover of The Sunshine Girl by Grace Jolliffe illustrating a post about the Ten Worst Things About Social NetworksI love social networks.

I work from home in a quiet location so I like keeping in contact with friends far away.

However, that doesn’t mean I like everything about it.

Some things are a real pain in the whatsits and some things are just plain boring.

Here are the ten things about social networks  I don’t like – in no particular order because I couldn’t decide which of them I liked least!

1. IF YOU DON’T SHARE YOU DON’T CARE

Posts about a disease, or addiction that ask you to share/place on your timeline to prove that you care because 90% won’t.

This is emotional blackmail and if there’s one thing I cannot stand it’s that.

I do care about lots of things, but I won’t be pushed into proving it (not that sharing an image on social media proves anything anyway.

2.  FAMOUS WOMAN GAINS WEIGHT!!!!!!!!!!

Posts that mock the appearance of female celebrities.

There is a big enough shit-heap of jealousy and misogyny in the world without handing out shovels.

3. TAKE MY ADVICE

Posts from experts who dispense how-to advice are great and I find a lot of them really helpful.

However, there are those who are not.

Nothing will make me ‘uncircle ‘an expert faster than when I ask them a question relevant to their post and they ignore it while still hovering around their post to plus or like the comments which simply praise them.

I think if you give advice you should stand over it

4. HOLY JOE AND FLOWER-POWER

Posts that make assumptions about my religious/spiritual beliefs by pushing prayers or religious images of any type, or, of any religion on my timeline.

I believe we are all entitled to our beliefs.

But, wouldn’t we all be happier if we didn’t push our religious or spiritual beliefs on each other?

This includes any alternatives as well.  A lot of people with alternative beliefs can be just as pushy about their beliefs.

Posts that advise people to cure their cancer with random clickbait ideas like:

Teabags/marijuana/water/light/earth/special rare leaves from the anti-cancer tree/granny’s recipe/apples/sugar-tablets etc.

This is irresponsible and could encourage people to stop their treatment and die.

Cancer is a serious illness and is specific to the individual.

Cancer sufferers can be vulnerable.

Don’t join the lowest of the low by exploiting that vulnerability to flog your blog.

6. DOCTORS WANT TO MAKE YOU SICK

Posts that start with what your Doctor won’t tell you!

Why is there this widespread and dangerous assumption that all doctors just want to keep people sick so they can get steak knives and fluffy towels from drug companies?

Yes, there are bad doctors but that doesn’t mean we should run away from the whole medical sector and into the arms of any passing quack who bought a few qualifications from an online university and is out there sucking in money selling their concoctions and consultations.

7. BORED WITH THOSE LAST STUBBORN KILOS

Posts about the latest weight-loss, breakthrough book etc.

Brimming with bullshit, this is one of the biggest bandwagons ever.

It is easy to look up many of these claims and diet-doctors and you would be very surprised just how easy it is to find out how many of them were either struck off/or never got a medical degree in the first place.

9.  TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL

Bloggers who think they are too shit-hot to ever like or share someone else’s posts and therefore only ever engage with other people on their own posts.

Yes, you know who you are and so do we!

10. VALLEY OF THE TWITCHING PITCHFORKS.

Images of people posing with animals they are supposed to have killed which ask people to share them – to bring them to justice.

It is quite easy to fake up photographs with emotive images and destroy someone’s life. It is never good to encourage a mob mentality.

So that’s my list. How about you? Is there anything I missed?

Love to hear from you!

Grace

I try and just shut my eyes on those and recite to myself that you can never get back time that is wasted!

Ha ha Mary, that’s a great strategy!

This is a list that should be blazing from the heavens for all to see. I am certainly going to share it. The reason I feel I need to share it is because I love Jesus, want to cure cancer, need to save the animals, watch the cute baby laugh, want to lose weight, need more sex, want foreign men to get out of line with me, and want to put down the next person for not wanting to do any of these incredible things. Good work, Grace.
